Nothing New Under the Search Sun

Google performs 5.6 billion searches a day as of a few years ago. I'm sure it is higher now. That is more than 2 trillion searches a year. Way back in 2017 Google confirmed that 15% of those searches are new. That means that searches in this 15% category were something that never been searched on their platform. That stat is a little old, but I couldn't find a quick and easy updated one. I'm sure that percentage is going down over time while the number of searches goes up. That means that 85% (or more) of what is searched for every day has been searched for before.

It does remind me of Ecclesiastes (chapter 1 verse 9) . . .

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Or better put from the New International Version of the Bible

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
