Be A Refuge

Book store window in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.

I was watching a TV show last night in my hotel and one of the characters had a secret note to herself written by ball point pen on her hand. It says “WWTDD”. (Meaning, “What would The Doctor do”). Yes, I’m a bit of a nerd and I watch Dr. Who. I always have since I was a kid. But I digress. In short, she wanted to be more like the Doctor, and obviously make decisions more like the Doctor. I had the thought while watching this, how many times I have heard people say or write, “WWJD?” What do they come up with for the answer?

If we want to ask ourselves what Jesus would do, Isaiah has one of the best verses I have read to help.

He says of the Messiah,

“For thou hast been a strength to the poor,

a strength to the needy in his distress,

a refuge from the storm,

a shadow from the heat,

when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.” (Isaiah 25:4)

What a wonderful place to start doing “WJWD.” Can I be a strength to the needy or poor today? Can I be a refuge from a storm for someone today?
