Never Let 1978 Slip Away

1978

More evidence that 1978 may have been the greatest year in Pop/Rock music history. Sure there are some cringe worthy things that came out of the 70’s but this is not one of them. I’ll fight anyone who disagrees. I mean just look at the joy these bearded-post-hippie well-dressed men have clapping at each other while turning in a circle. That is the feeling of knowing they are making a song that just brings happiness to the world.

Andrew Gold - “Never Let Her Slip Away”

You can’t listen to this song without it sticking in your head. From the moment I heard this song in 1978 at the Pleasant Ridge Community Pool (yes, I remember hearing it the first time) I was hooked.

Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters agrees with me on this song - “There is something about that era of music, where you had all of these incredibly gifted songwriters who were really proficient in their playing. Someone like Andrew Gold […] I swear to God, he sang this song called ‘Never Let Her Slip Away’. Dude, this song is not a huge hit in America, but it’s the most beautiful piece of music ever written.” (Far Out Magazine)

etc.

You know more of Andrew Gold’s work that you may realize. He is a multi-instrumentalist who did work on many songs and albums you have heard over the years. Linda Ronstadt, Eric Carmen, Art Garfunkel and more used him for his songs (all instruments, arranger, producer, writer, etc.) If you have watched the “Golden Girls” you know his song “Thank You for Being a Friend.”
